Collection of updates.

Haven’t updated in awhile so I thought that I would do a collection of various updates all on one post.

First off, last week, Drew William Martin-Vegue was born

Congrats Tim and Carrie!

Feb 28, the Second Appellate District Court of Los Angeles basically ruled that homeschooling is no longer a legal option in California.

Over all I am not that worried, this will probably be contested and revoked, for the time being, but it sets a first, in California, and sets the stage for the rest of the country.

How many people have I talked to who said that this is America, a free country and that the checks and balances that we have in place will keep such things from happening. People, wake up and see that unless you are the salt of the earth, no document of man will keep this country from distruction. How many christians will not vote because they wrongly feel that it is somehow against scripture.

Proverbs 1 says, starting at verse 20;
20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying ,
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

This verse is saying that those who are wise will make the commands of Christ made known in the “chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city”… This is talking directly about matters of political nature. In those days, those who sat in the gates of the city where those of great political power in their community.

The bible makes it clear in this verse, and in many other ones “…render unto Caesar, then things that are Caesar’s and unto God, the things that are God’s.” That as we are given the privilege and responsibility to vote, we need to take it and use it.

In the United States of America, we have been given the privilege, honor and duty of being able to have a saw in the destination and direction that our land is taking. To not vote, and to abstain from political involvement would be to be as that servant described to us in Matthew, who went and hid his talent in the ground and did not use it for the potential that it had. Our Lord did not have pleasant words for that individual.

So, please vote in the upcoming elections and in the future set your light upon a hill and do not hide it, so that it may be seen and make an impact in this country while you have the chance.

On another interesting political thread, Nathan Macy wrote this:
No matter what you say or what your convictions are, you will always be forcing your beliefs on each other anytime you have a difference of opinions. By stating that someone is wrong, you are forcing your belief on them. It is the epitome of hypocrisy to tell some one that their religion should not interfere with their political judgments.

He is completely right, There is no such thing as a neutral position. To be neutral, would be to not hold a position. If I am a Christian, my beliefs are affected by my christianity. If you are an atheist, then your beliefs are affected by your atheism. To tell one that we need to debate on a “level playing field” is fine, but as soon as your opponent asserts that level would be atheism (i.e. “Let’s leave God out of this”), he is already tilting the tables irrevocably to his side. The second that a christian agrees to these terms, the argument is as good as lost.

And now, Michelle Obama opinion of America is this:
“… we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents.”
Just the kind of First Lady that we want right? I think not.

Airbus got the contract for the KC-45, that will be interesting. It is valued at somewhere between $40 to $100 billion.

On a more personal note, I am stll in full time A&P school and am looking into a couple after-school job opportunities at the airport, one of which looks quite promising and I am really hoping that it will go through. We’ll see, I am praying a lot about it.

I really would like to get a laptop to replace the one that was stolen, but all in the Lord’s timing. He knows best.

Saturday our family went to a big garage sale. It is a neighborhood which has CCNR’s that state that they are only allowed to have garage sales on one day in the year. Consequently, there is probably around 50+ houses with garage sales on this day. This year I was quite successful. I picked up a fully working 42cc 18″ chainsaw for $2. The guys said that he thought that it needed a spark-plug, but I took it apart cleaned it, put it back together and it runs really well. I also picked up a blower that it almost identical to the one that I tore apart for the engine for my plane that I am working on (25cc), and a weed-wacker with an engine, that I am not sure what it is yet. I also got a old edge trimmer engine that I will eventually turn into a go-cart engine. All that for under $20
On top of that I got a handheld scanner for $5, really neat, I can pickup fire, police, aircraft, and many other frequencies. I was even able to find the channel that the lapel mic at our church was using.

I also picked up a 200watt car amp that I will be using for a portable sound system for outdoor events and such.

Garage sales are wonderful places to get stuff for cheap. All told, I spent all told around $60 and got between $500-$800 of stuff for projects.

And finally:
The US Air Force has been sending sensitive information, including flight plans for Air Force One, to a website promoting the town of Mildenhall in Suffolk. When told of the error by the site’s owner, the Air Force did not attempt to fix it at first. When reminded at a later time, instead of fixing the issue, they advised the owner to ‘block unrecognizable addresses from his domain and have an auto-reply sent reminding people of the official Mildenhall domain and blocked his website from access on base.

Congrats to Tim & Carrie!

Regarding the contested legality of homeschooling: I have been reading about that–not good. If that takes effect, the only options I see for the many CA homeschoolers would be to put their kids in school, leave the state, or be non-compliant. Talk about having to choose among the lesser of three evils…

Do you have specific goals as far as what you’ll do when you’re done with A&P school? I assume you want to fly… but what? (private, commercial, military)
